Are there any age restrictions?
You have to be 18 or over. There is no maximum age.
What if I’m widowed or divorced?
That’s fine! We welcome everyone.
Remember that matching is based on everyone’s preferences so you will only be introduced to matches who are open to being introduced to widowed or divorced users.
What if I have children?
That’s fine! We welcome everyone.
Remember that matching is based on everyone’s preferences so you will only be introduced to others who are open to being introduced matches who have children.
Do I have to be Shia to sign up?
No – just looking to marry someone Shia.
Remember that matching is based on everyone’s preferences so you will only be introduced to others who are open to matches who are not Shia.
How do you define Shia?
Broadly. Anyone who considers themselves Shia is welcome.
In the intake questionnaire we give users the option to specify which sub-sect they are a part of, and to indicate which sects’ followers they are open to being introduced to.
Do I have to be religious and observant?
No. At ShiaCafe, we don’t judge; we match. You can have any degree of observance.
Remember that matching is based on everyone’s preferences. In the intake questionnaire we ask users to indicate how observant they are, and what degree of observance they prefer or are open to in a mate.
In which country do I have to live?
Anywhere! You can sign up if you’re in any country.
Right now we have the most users in the following countries: USA, UK, Canada, Australia/NZ, Pakistan, India, all Gulf countries, France, Germany, and Turkey. But we have users in virtually every country where there is a Shia Muslim population.
Just remember that we currently introduce users to others in the same country. We plan to launch international matching soon.
HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK AFTER I SIGN UP?
How do I start?
Simple! Just click the “Get Started” button.
What happens after I click “Get Started”?
We will take you to our online background questionnaire to complete. That’s how we get to know you and your preferences!
What happens after I complete the online questionnaire?
We start searching our database for potential matches based on your preferences.
We will also email your credentials for your account, where you can review our suggested potential matches and indicate whether you want to meet each one or not.
HOW DO MATCHING AND INTRODUCTIONS WORK?
What is a “mutual match”?
When you complete your questionnaire we find potential matches for you based on your preference and show them to you in your dashboard. You review these profiles and indicate which ones you would want to be introduced to. We do the same for all users.
When two users review each others’ profiles and both indicate that they would like to be introduced, then we have a “mutual match”! And the two of them are introduced.
How is the introduction done?
Once you both confirm you want to be introduced, we introduce the two of you over email. If someone is using a representative, that person will also receive the email.
What happens after the introduction?
The two of you take it from there! We leave it to you to communicate and decide whether to move forward. Just keep us posted!
Note that we only introduce you to one person at a time.
Once we’ve made an introduction, we will pause making introductions for you until we hear from you that it hasn’t worked out .
What if it doesn’t work out?
You let us know in the dashboard, and we’ll keep looking for your next match!
When will you do international / cross-border introductions?
It takes more development, but we are working on it! We will launch soon.
Can I search your database?
No, sorry.
We are not a “dating site” where anybody can search all profiles and view all profiles.
We only show our users the profiles of potential matches based on the preferences they express.
What if I want my father/mother/sister/brother involved in the process?
Sure — that’s up to you! We allow you to indicate in your questionnaire whether you would like somebody involved in the process as a first step for communications or introductions.
We will then make introductions only to people who indicate they are open to this arrangement.
WHAT DO YOU CHARGE?
In most countries, it’s completely free! We charge nothing.
In a few countries we charge a small fee per introduction to cover our costs.
Remember — an introduction only takes place when two users have reviewed each other’s profiles and both have indicated that they want to be introduced to the other — i.e. there’s a “mutual match”.
If you live in one of the countries where there is a fee, once you log into your dashboard you will be given the option to pre-pay for your next introduction with a large discount, or wait until after the match is found.
IS SHIACAFE RIGHT FOR ME?
Yes! ShiaCafe is right for you if any of the following apply to you:
1) You’d prefer to marry someone Shia.
Most Shias do — for many reasons.
But now you’re asking yourself if that’s even possible, or whether you need to look beyond the Shia population because…
2) Meeting the right person hasn’t been easy.
It’s a common experience:
Maybe you don’t know many Shias — or not many outside of your close circle. It feels like there are no eligible men/women in your age group — all the good ones are taken.
And the known ways of finding and meeting other Shias are painful:
Traditional “dating” sites full of fake/exaggerated/defunct profiles — where your inbox gets flooded with messages from creeps or people from the other side of the world. Those random awkward setup through your parents’ friends’ friends — the auntie network.
3) You don’t want to broadcast this part of your life to the world.
Yes, you want to meet people. But putting up a dating profile for all to search and see, detailing all your hopes and dreams, makes you feel exposed. Your mom sending your picture and bio to every auntie who knows another auntie is just too awkward.
But there is a better way: ShiaCafe.
